“Woe unto the Greeks and Romans. “Oh consistency how thou art a jewel.”
Chapter 9 of my book entitled The Footprints of Funny Feet discusses the topic and cost of dealing with false Gods. I have learned that if we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. What I mean by that is reading and worshiping another God does not liken unto the teachings of the God of the Holy Bible. In fact false teachings or teaching of any other faith only leads to trap door straight into Hell. I don’t mean to sound harsh. I mean to stick to the truth.
The Apostle Paul’s Letter to Corinth warned against worshiping false Gods.
1 Corinthians 10:2-11
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
I, yes I fell into this trap for the summers of 2011-2012. It all happened a long time ago. Once Upon a Time in a land far, far away.
My fondness to read about history all began because of a bad grade I received in one of my college classes. In the Spring of 2011, I received a bad grade in my News Writing class.
I was on the brink of being kicked out of school due to this failing grade.
I say this only because I know that not everyone can be the Stuart Minkus of their school.
I’m going to spare you all the boring details and just tell after talking things with my professor of the class as well as the department head of the program it was decided that I could either pull up my socks and become the journalism they knew I could be or face the embarrassing walk back home and I would have to do that without my degree in journalism. So after receiving the rather rude awakening, I vowed from on to be book smart to the point that I would able to answer any question on any topic if anyone asked. They have a search engine that does that now, it’s called Google.
Walking with false gods truly meant that I would be in for trouble. These false God’s that I speak of work for to the writings of Greek philosopher Homer. To the Greeks the Olympians and the Titans are the be-all and end-all of civilization. There’s the good in the Olympians and there’s the bad in Titans. Walking with false God would have me explore a world that would ultimately almost have me blaspheme against God. It’s not something I was ready for and it’s not something I was even aware of. But reading about other gods and studying about them almost made me believe in them. As a child I remember growing up with Greek mythology being taught inside the classroom.
It was one of the ways the school would teachers to read and write by using our imaginations. Some of my best friends like Chris and Nick were huge fans of Greek mythology they understood something I didn’t. Greek mythology was not real. It was something I never came into the realization about until years later. Studying Greek mythology.
I thought stories were cool because they were full of action the even had TV shows Greek mythology. It was socially acceptable to learn about the Greeks, but it wasn’t socially acceptable to be a Christian or learn about the Bible. As a child I grew up watching shows like Hercules, Troy even Clash of the Titans but it all would become absolute nonsense the more I read the Bible. There is one aspect of Greek mythology could escape.
I loved to read, and thus I began to take an interest in reading about this extremely high grace and their life. I first began reading a book series entitled Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I understood the book very well, it was full of action, and because I was a wrestling fan at the time that kind of action of warning venture appealed to my human nature. Within two weeks of reading the book series I had finished five novels. I also had the idea of visiting Greece to figure out the landmarks behind where these stories took place. However as I said earlier because I read the Bible and the Greek mythology novels they contradict each other greatly. Within two weeks I learned lifetime of Greek mythology. And I was showing a more appealing sense towards the false gospel rather than the true gospel. At the end of the day I thought it just a movie, or is just a book it can’t hurt me to learn about these characters. The Jersey the matter it did. It hurt my understanding of the true gospel. It would take 15 years for the Lord to work on me, to bring me to that old-fashioned altar to confess my sins and watching them blood of the Lamb. I don’t exactly know why I stopped reading Greek novels but I’m thankful to the Lord of heaven that he showed me the amount of patience and persistence to bring me to Calvary’s Hill.
it still baffles me that to this day young kids in school are still being taught false doctrine within their classrooms. To this day kids are still reading about the Greeks when they should be reading about God. This is how deceived the world is that as long as people understand that mythology is in the end of the it socially acceptable for anybody to read about that because a myth is something that is not real. However most people don’t realize that a myth is a lie, analyze is directly thought up by the father of liars Satan himself. People must begin to understand, that their hearts, and souls need to be opened up to God, because the book is clear about how a person receives salvation.
Acts 4:12King James Version (KJV)
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
After I was finished with my wrestling career, I had nothing better to do. My career options finished where would I turn I would turn to God. I tried to find God. I could find his plan for my life but in truth I went about it all wrong because I would not separate from the world and because I would not separate from the world at that time I would get more hindered staying at home that would receive help I didn’t know at the time that I was tying God’s hands.
I went back home only to find out that my search for God in a home that doesn’t want God or in a home that doesn’t feel they need to have God in their lives was certainly a dangerous place for me to stay. At some point I had to search for God on my own that would become more difficult than one would realize because I honestly didn’t know where to look. I didn’t know who could teach me the complete truth of God. I had a wrong concept of God. At the time before understanding and coming into the reality of God I begin to study historical novels that spoke about the power of Jesus. I began to look for God in books such as the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons these two books written by literary author Dan Brown and although there are many truths in the novel, the truth about Jesus was never there.
The only thing that was there was scientific theories and outrageous hypotheses. Most of the time reading these two novels from of pages never, lined up with the Scriptures. . I should have realized sooner however I was captivated by the novel because of this sense of action the book had. I was captivated by false action. I was deceived greatly. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4King James Version (KJV)
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there comes a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
There’s only one good thing that came out of reading those books, I was never satisfied. I felt the need to read more. So I went looking for more, by watching historical documentaries, also I began to watch certain television series that would try to put an adequate spin on certain moments in life. Live from my from my living room I saw the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the war between Spartacus and his need for vengeance I often wondered why the concept of Jesus was widely manipulated.
The only problem with that theory is the concept of God. Hollywood only produces content that benefits them, it never produces content that feeds the soul. The reason I know this, is because if you look at the concept of movies and television and why it was created for entertainment purposes. And when you are watching a movie or television show especially at the theater you are asked by people at the concession stand if you would like to buy popcorn. In no way am I saying that popcorn and drinking pop is evil, I’m simply stating that it is a routine people had become comfortable with for centuries. The more captivated you are by the movie or television series, the more likely you are willing to $10 on a bag of popcorn and drink.
Where’s the soul food? For very long time… I thought I was smart, because I watched historical television series and movies more than cartoons. I realized very quickly that all that world knowledge didn’t put food on the table and it sure didn’t put clothes on my back. Studying all my worldly knowledge taught me nothing but false talk. In fact because I thought I knew so much about the way the world worked and only furthered my need to talk, sometimes I would talk to great length even when people did not want me to talk. I thought by talking to them I was doing them a great service.
Ephesians 4:29King James Version (KJV)
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
If all else fails, blame it on Disney!
